Description
A fine WWII German Kriegsmarine M40 coastal artillery jacket.
Similar in design to the standard Wehrmacht M40 tunic, the Kriegsmarine coastal artillery tunic is harder to find and differed in that it features two lower internal pockets.
Manufactured from a field grey wool/rayon blend, it has a five button front closure with single metal hook and eye positioned at the neckline. The field blouse has two, pleated upper front pockets, with a medal loop to the left hand pocket and two lower internal pockets. The four pockets all have scalloped button down flaps. The jacket is lined, with has the internal bandage pouch and stamped with the maker depot name Fr. Schmitzu Co. Pforzheim, with the size 102.
The collar has the standard zig-zag stitching and internal buttons for the hood. The original Kriegsmarine collar tabs/litzen have been hand sown so look to have been restored, with an original breast eagle which has been machine stitched to the tunic. The buttons are the standard army pebbled model and original to the tunic. These can sometimes be seen on coastal artillery jackets which were also issued to the Wehrmacht towards the end of WWII.
The tunic is in very good condition overall, with some very small internal staining and light wear from period use. There is one very small hole at the bottom front of the jacket, with no damage elsewhere.
